“True North” - This sculpture poses a question about what is true. There is a double reference to earth through the use of a compass and the fossilized stone that is the main element of the work. What is true for this planet today is that the questions we ask are important. How will 9 million humans live here and maintain an eco-system that will support themselves and all other life on this island in space? Will we find a way forward that nurtures, or will we degrade the earth to the point that we will not survive? Which direction are we going toward solving the challenges we face, or are we just giving marginal effort to correcting our course? Global warming, loss of species, loss of habitat, and water depletion are just a few of the challenges that we face.
